Thaimaa sulkee Phi Phi Islandin

 

Viranomaiset sulkevat väliaikaisesti liiallisesta turistimäärästä kärsiviä rantoja Aasiassa.

Filippiinit sulki Boracayn saaren kuudeksi kuukaudeksi 26.4. alkaen. Presidentti Rodrigo Duterte on määrännyt saaren rantaan poliiseja varmistamaan, etteivät turistit pääse saarelle, jonka rantoja presidentti luonnehtii likakaivoiksi. Boracayn suosituin ranta on White Sand Beach, jonka rantavedet ovat jo niin likaisia, että uimista täytyy harkita kahdesti.

Viime vuonna saarella kävi kaksi miljoonaa turistia ja turismin parissa työskentelee lähes 17 000 ihmistä.

Myös Thaimaan viranomaiset ovat ilmoittaneet kuuluisan Maya Bayn sulkemisesta Phi Phi -saarella neljäksi kuukaudeksi 1.6.-30.9.

Viranomaiset ovat huolissaan rantojen karmeasta kunnosta ja korallien tuhoutumisesta.

May Bayllä käy päivittäin jopa 6 000 turistia, jotka tuodaan sinne veneillä, joiden ankkurit tuhoavat herkkiä koralleja ja turistimäärät vahingoittavat saaren herkkää luontoa.

Kun May Bay jälleen avataan, turistien määrä rajoitetaan 2000:een per päivä. Turisteja tuoville veneille tehdään uusi satama läheiselle Losama Baylle, mistä tehdään polut 250 metrin päähän Maya Baylle.

May Bay tuli kuuluisaksi vuonna 2000 Leonardo Dicaprion tähdittämästä The Beach -elokuvasta, jonka jälkeen kävijämäärä räjähti.

Thaimaan viranomaiset tutkivat myös muiden suosittujen rantojen väliaikaista sulkemista; Koh Tapoo ja Kao Ping Kan, jotka sijaitsevat Phang Nga -luonnonpuistossa sekä Koh Rok Mu Koh Lantan luonnonpuistossa ja osa Similanin luonnonpuistoa.

Thaimaan viranomaiset sulkevat vuosittain useita puistoja. Tänä vuonna se sulkee osaksi vuodesta 66 puistoa 147 puistosta. Osittain syynä ovat ilmasto-olosuhteet, kuten sadekausi, jolloin puistoissa liikkuminen voi olla hankalaa.
